The Kids: Max Kramers and Dan Flanagan at 2019 Moth North Americans
Halloween Party 2018
Halloween Party 2016

Welcome to the Tiverton Yacht Club.  We are a small family oriented yacht club on the Sakonnet River in Tiverton, Rhode Island.  If you have a love for the water, for boats and for down to earth friendly people, you have found the right place.

The Blessed Mother Mary was there. So were two Inmates from the Gotham prison in New York City.  Saint Rose of Lima made an appearance.  She sat on the table next to the two bank robbers who spent the night counting their loot and giving $5 to all the other guests.  And, where were you?

The theme of the annual Halloween Costume Party, held last Friday night on the second floor of the clubhouse, was Criminals, Saints and Fools.  Over fifty guests took this theme seriously and dressed appropriately for the event.  Dozens of small starry lights straddled the ceiling illuminated the dance floor and the buffet table that held snack food, homemade pastries and specialty Lebanese foods.

"I went to Sam's Bakery in Fall River to pick these up this afternoon," said Sue Kramers who helped with the gothic decorations for this annual bash.

It was the 6 Digg-It Band that brought live music to the guests.  In every 45-minute set, dancers jammed the dance floor to the sounds of classic rock, sentimental favorites and a taste of the new sounds of the teens.

"Fly like an Eagle," gave every guest a chance to show their stuff on the floor that reverberated with the crackling guitar sounds of the band.  At one point all stopped dancers and watched a drum roll between two players that brought back memories of my seeing the great, late Max Roach playing the drums at the Newport Jazz Festival.

Commodore Phyllis Ibbotson, co-chair, chose to dress as a Cat Burglar while her co-chair, Marc Pfeiffer, came as a basic criminal in a long black coat with a black hood that also hid most of his face.  Deb Hagen was dressed as a St. Bernard but her angel wings lent an ethereal feeling to her style as she consorted with some of the criminals, Wayne Kazenski and Dirk Kramers, near the bar toward the rear of the dance floor.  Wayne's wife, Pam Begg, had on a costume from the 101 Dalmatian movie.  Sue Kramers looked like a punk criminal in the same vogue as her jailbird husband.  But it was Diana Craft that took the show with her Blessed Mother outfit.  It was a beautiful off-white colored dress complete with a magnificent head piece.  She was able to keep her celestial composure even on the dance floor.  She was seen often during the night with Saint Rose of Lima, Leslie Ainsworth, who also looked the saintly part in her shiny maroon dress and subtle head crown of small roses.  Pat and Dave Collins were the bank robbers with all the loot.  Joanne Reuther dressed as Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter.

A special thanks to Claire, our summer steward who came on board to help with this event.

Activities at the TYC continue through the coming months.  The Turkey Trot will be held in November and the Sail Training Christmas Party will take place in December.  The annual Winter Social will be in January.  Please check the TYC website for updates and your email for further information.
