No shoes on this dance floor as the TYC sandy beach was transformed into a tropical island where the annual Beach Party was held last Saturday night.
A row of blue Adirondack chairs circled the west side of the beach providing a large sandy space where members and guests danced the night away
Many sat near the roaring camp fire that provided a little heat on a cooler than normal Saturday night in July. Ten Tiki torches were strategically placed near the water’s edge and closer to the Tiki Bar that sat on the dock. From the tent, a DJ played classic Rock and Roll songs and requested from the guests.
Commodore Phyllis Ibbotson, the founder of this annual event, welcomed the many guests who attended. Among them was Diane Sayers, Vice President of William Raveis, Real Estate, the Company where Phyllis is employed as an agent
Next to the Tiki Bar were two long tables covered in nautical blue cloths. Colorful sea shells were scattered on them. Small bright white lights were strung from the poles in the rear.
An array of culinary delicacies brought by the members, homemade pizza squares, small cheese hot dogs, chips and dips and several bowls of freshly cut fruits, were spread out on the table. One of the most popular dishes was the salmon on pita bread slices with a wedge of lemon.
It was just after 8 pm as the sun faded behind the dark clouds in the western sky that members began to dance.
The Latin sounds of Tequila brought smiles to many standing near the Tiki Bar. A few started to sing to the melody but it was the TYC treasurer and his wife who did the right thing.
Brendan McNally and Jennifer Rashleigh went to the center of the dance floor and did the first dance of the night. And, boy, did they dance! Neither missed a beat to the rhythm. They were agile, making all the right moves to the music. And, of course, doing this barefoot!
This inspired other guests to proceed to the dance floor and dance the night away. Although the DJ ended at ten pm, the ambiance of a tropical night in paradise lingered as the guests lingered for a long time.
